Millions of animals – foxes, mink, and raccoon dogs – are bred in barren cages, suffering unimaginable cruelty, before being killed for profit. The breeding and farming of fur-bearing animals or trapping them in the wild to produce fashion or luxury items is cruel, unethical, and unnecessary.

Our Fight Against Fur

FOUR PAWS is advocating to put an end to the fur industry, and we have done so since our very creation in 1988. It is an outdated industry that produces unnecessary, easily replaceable fashion items, with dramatic negative impacts on animal welfare, humans, and the environment. In 2022, we launched a European Citizen Initiative: 'Fur Free Europe', collecting more than 1.5 million validated signatures from EU citizens, supporting a call for an EU-wide ban on fur farming. Since then, FOUR PAWS and all other animal welfare groups involved have been staying tuned to influence the final political decision towards ending this cruel practice.
